The Birch Geisha

Puzzle/Mixed Media, 2006

21.5 x 26"

Sold

This piece is truly unique in that the background for the puzzle mask is 100% birch with the hair/eyes/eyebrows and mouth also consisting entirely of found birch.  The birch has been varnished for protection and is mounted to 1/4" treated plywood.  Thousands of puzzle pieces were glued to form the Geisha's face with the top layer being that of the New York Times Newspaper Jigsaw Puzzle.

The hole in the 'mouth' piece was natural and was what inspired me to name her 'The Birch Geisha'.  The 'hair' is all one piece, and has been bolted to the plywood.
